Monarchs Boosters Remember Jennifer Kemp
On December 2, 2007, the MMBC took time to remember Jennifer Kemp.  It was a chilly start to the day
with temperatures near 20 degrees, but still 15-20 friends & family braved the cold to “Celebrate
Jen”.

Sometimes, you have no control of things that happen.  When we arrived at the cemetery in Henniker, NH,
we found out the town locked the gates at both entrances.  The gates were still open the day before, but
because a pending snowstorm was coming in during the evening, they locked the gates.  Next to one of the
gates was a small opening between the gate and the stone wall.  We made our way through the opening
and walked to the burial site.

Lydia Perry read a poem aloud to the Kemps.  People took a few moments to visit with Jen and then we
made their way back to the cars to head over to the Kemps house for the rest of the celebration.  In
previous years, everything we did in celebration of Jen was done at the cemetery, but this year, we were
not able to bring the vehicles into the cemetery.

Once we arrived at the Kemp house, we gathered again outside in a small grassy
field next to the garage.  John & Lydia Perry, as well as Lynda Field, already filled
balloons up with helium for the balloon launch.  Everyone was given a balloon and
for those who wanted to write a message on the balloon in Jen’s memory, there
                                                                                        were several sharpies available.

Lydia gave to go ahead to launch the balloons.  The balloons gave the sky some
beautiful color.  Once those balloons reached a height we could not see them
anymore, Lydia gathered Jen’s relatives (Paul, Katie, Michael, Shannon, Meagan
and Zoe) in a circle.  Each family member grabbed the strings of a batch of multi-
c                                                                                          colored balloons and released them together.

Carol Gagnon read a letter she wrote to the Kemps.  It was straight from the heart.  It
touched all who were there.  Such thought, care and love was in the ink the letter was written with.  Thank you for sharing, Carol.

Next, each of the Kemps was given a gift bag and they were asked to open them
together.  Inside was a hockey puck, but it was not one that you would use in an ice
hockey game.  This puck was a special edition puck.  This puck has Jen’s picture in
the center of it with her name – Jennifer Kemp – above her picture, and the dates
that she graced the world with her presence below.

Jennifer Kemp Memorial Pucks are available through the MMBC at a cost of $20
each.  All proceeds from the pucks will go toward the MMBC’s Jennifer Kemp
Hockey Scholarship Fund.  This fund provides a means for less fortunate children to
attend a hockey camp to sharpen their skills.

Once all the events were completed,
we went inside the house to warm up
and eat.  It was a potluck style meal and we have many good cooks out there.  There
was plenty of food and beverage to consume.

At 1:00 PM, we started to file out of the house, as most of us headed to Lowell to see
the Monarchs play the Devils at a 4:00 PM game.

If you were unable to attend this event, click on the "Jennifer Kemp" button above.  On
that page, you can view a few videos of this event.

John & Lydia, thank you for taking the reigns and planning this memorable event, and
for supplying the coffee, donuts and balloons.  Thanks to Lydia & Carol for sharing
your thoughts through your readings.  To the Kemp family, thank you for letting us be a
part of your lives.  You are special people to all of us.

God bless you, Jen.  You will always be in our hearts.

Article by Bill Walch

On Saturday, December 8, 2007, the Manchester Monarchs took on
the Chicago Wolves for the first time in history and soundly defeated
them, 7-4.

After the game, the MMBC broomball team traveled to Tri-Town
Arena to play their first “regular season” game.

Their opponent was the Syracuse Crunch Corps Booster Club’s
broomball team.  Only one other time in history have these two
teams met on the ice and that was the first game of last year’s AHL
Booster Club Broomball Tournament held in Marlborough, MA and
hosted by the Worcester Sharks Booster Club.  The game ended up
a 0-0- tie.

The MMBC team held one practice since the tournament (back in
August).  We used that hour and a half of time working on our
broomball skills.  Since we were still new to the game, we decided the best thing to do was to work on our (lack) of broomball skills.

What were we looking for out of this SCCBC/MMBC match-up?  I
think most important of all was to have fun playing another team
without the stress of tournament play.  We wanted to score a
                                                                                                                         goal, maybe.

The game started at 10:40 PM.  The score remained 0-0 for a
while.  In the stands were about 20 people strong.  You could
hear them cheering in the background for us.  Many even
decided it was ok verbally abuse some players for their play (in a
friendly way).  I will say this…what we were doing is the correct
way.  There is a reason they (the fans) were sitting in the stands.

About half way through the game, Manchester’s Jim Longden
scored on a great play.  This was Jim’s first broomball action
ever.  He had just joined the team the week prior to the game.  He
used another player’s broomball stick, as his had yet to arrive
from Instant Replay Sports in Minnesota (our broomball equipment
provider).  About 10 minutes later, Manchester’s John Perry scored a goal, making the score 2-0, which was the final score.

Thanks to Syracuse for making the trip up to Manchester to play the game.  We hope you enjoyed yourselves.
MMBC Donates Much Needed Funds to the NH FoodBank

At the MMBC Membership Meeting held on November 5th,
MMBC members voted to scrap the holiday collection for the
NH FoodBank and instead make a flat $450 donation to them.
The decision was made as the food bank is struggling with the
lack of food donations and they could use the money now,
rather than wait to collect donations.

The MMBC will continue to donate 1/2 of the net of our monthly
raffles to the NHFB.  A program of NH Catholic Charities, the
New Hampshire Food Bank serves as the only food bank in the
state.  Its' approach to ending hunger includes developing
programs to help educate our member agencies, rolling out a
Mobile Food Pantry, and expanding our Operation Frontline
program. Each year the
Food Bank distributes over 4 million pounds of donated,
surplus food to nearly 350 food
pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, day care centers, senior
citizen homes and substance abuse treatment centers.  These
member agencies in turn provide the food to the over 95,000
hungry men, women and children throughout New Hampshire.

For each dollar donated, the NHFB can provide 4 meals.  As a
result, the MMBC will have provided 1,800 meals with this
donation.

Congratulations to Gabe Gauthier for being selected as the winner of the February, 2008
MMBC / Wild Rover Player of the Month Award.

Kierstyn Rust-Belforti.  She won the opportunity to present the Player of the Month award by
winning a raffle held at the MMBC’s monthly membership meeting.

Besides the Player Award Certificate, Gabe received a $25 Gift Certificate to the Wild Rover
Restaurant & Pub, located at 21 Kosciuszko Street in Manchester, NH.  The Wild Rover is the

While on the subject of Milwaukee, we would like to thank the
Milwaukee Admirals Front Office for the gifts they gave us while

Admirals puck, team calendar and a rally towel.  Thank you very
much for the gifts. We appreciate what you did for us.

Last, but not least, we would like to express our gratitude to the
Chicago Wolfpack Booster Club, for hosting us at the Gino’s East,
which was located down the road from the hotel we were staying
at.  We appreciate the effort you put into hosting us.

To all of you, thank you very much.  It was nice to travel to each of
your cities and to meet many great people on our travels.
Hopefully some day, we will be able to do it again, but this time in
Manchester.

By Bill Walch

It has been a five year run for me as president of the Manchester Monarchs Booster Club.  It
is time for me to hand the reigns over to someone who is more than competent to handle the
daily operations of the MMBC.

With nominations coming up at the April Membership Meeting (April 7) for President, Vice
President, Treasurer and Recording Secretary, members must decide who is best to fill those
positions.  If you feel you could fill one of those positions, the April meeting is your chance to
be nominated by another member.  The actual elections will take place at the May
Membership Meeting (May 12 – date was changed from the 5th).

For me, I have enjoyed my time as the president of the MMBC.  I thank you for allowing me the
opportunity of leading the MMBC for the first five years.  I hope you were satisfied with the job
I have done for the last five years.  In that time, I believe the MMBC was able to donate many,
many needed dollars to several organizations in need of our help.

I have to give it up to Jen Kemp.  She was my rock when she and I worked together to start
the MMBC from scratch.  She would be proud of what its members have done and that so
many people cared about the team, the MMBC and our community.  I owe her so much for her
work.  She may not be here in person, but she is still a part of each of us.  She is living this
dream of a booster club through us.

I want to thank all the people who were part of my Executive Boards and Chairpersons over
the past five years, who have volunteered their time to keep the MMBC running on a steady
pace.

I do not intend on “disappearing”.  I intend to find my niche in the MMBC and continue making the MMBC a great organization.  I thank
you all for your friendship and look forward to seeing you for years to come!
