The idea of a Manchester Monarchs Booster Club may have been in the air around Manchester since the day
the Manchester Monarchs came to town. Either the people thought the team was responsible to form one or
nobody knew how to form one on their own.
Toward the end of the Manchester Monarchs inaugural season, two avid fans formed what was known as the
Royal Road Warriors. Those fans were Russ Cooper & Steve Englert. The Royal Road Warriors were a group of
fans who wanted to travel to the Monarchs away games. In the first season, the Royal Road Warriors took one
trip to Springfield, MA. In the Monarchs second season, the Royal Road Warriors took four trips, traveling to
places like Hartford, CT, Hershey/Philadelphia, PA, Springfield, MA and Providence, RI.
Meanwhile, in December 2002, Bill Walch was in contact with several AHL Booster Clubs, inquiring about how to
start a booster club. He met with the Hershey Bears Booster Club on January 5, 2003 to discuss the topic of a
booster club and spoke with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Booster Club two weeks later. He received a few
responses from other AHL Booster Clubs that were helpful. With help from Jennifer Kemp, Bill was able to lay
the groundwork for the formation of the MMBC.
In March 2003, Bill & Jen approached the Royal Road Warriors, asking Russ & Steve if they would help organize
the MMBC. From this point on, it became a team effort to get the MMBC off the ground.
Bill & Russ met with the Monarchs President Jeff Eisenberg to discuss the idea. Through the next several
months Bill, Russ & Steve had met with Jeff on several occasions and on June 25, 2003, the MMBC was born.
In early 2004, we were 100 member strong.
In May, 2004, Families in Transition (FIT ~ www.fitnh.org) named the Manchester Monarchs Booster Club their
Volunteer Excellence Award winner for consistently giving their time, talents and resources to help Families in
Transition.
In September, 2005, the Manchester Monarchs Booster Club was named the 2005 AHL Booster Club of the
Year. This award is given to the booster club which did the most to promote hockey and good-will amongst
member clubs. Each booster club in the AHL votes every year for the club they feel deserve such an honor.
