MMBC Mourns Loss of Member, Recording Secretary, MMBC Co-Founder Jennifer Kemp

On Sunday, Monarchs and UNH hockey fans were stunned and saddened by the news that Jenny Kemp had passed away at her home in
Henniker. Jen was the embodiment of a hockey fan. A passionate UNH and Monarch fan, she loved “her boys”. Jen traveled thousands
of miles and spent countless hours at arenas to support and cheer for them. Her passion for the game went well beyond that of most
fans. Her dedication to the hockey community helped bring the Manchester Monarchs Booster Club to fruition; Jen served as the
Recording Secretary for the MMBC at the time of her passing. To those of you who aren’t as lucky as I am to have known Jen, I assure
you that her efforts and dedication to the Club went well beyond the duties of Secretary. She arranged for us to be able to help less
fortunate families during the holiday season, put together impromptu trips for Monarchs away games, served as a host for visiting teams
booster clubs, was at the Booster Club table for every home game, encouraged fans to bring banners to hang around the arena, the list
just goes on an on. Her unselfishness transcended her hockey interests and was evident in all aspects of her life.
Jen was known as monarchs23 on several hockey related message boards. Jen would keep us up to date on the happenings in all of
hockey and with current and past UNH and Monarchs hockey players. She openly challenged players,
coaches, management and the press to be their best with her words and through example. Her knowledge
of and passion for the game was incredible as evidenced in her postings on the boards. Although the people
who knew her on the boards will surely miss her insightfulness and wit, “m23” will forever live in my heart
and I trust in the hearts and thoughts of countless others.
With Jen’s passing, hockey has lost one of the best fans it will ever know and I have lost a very dear friend.
My deepest sympathies go out to Jen’s parents Katie and Paul, her brother Michael, as well as the rest of her
family and friends. My prayers and thoughts are with you all and with Jen.

Jennifer Kemp was well known to many people in the hockey world. She was known as a moderator for
www.letsgokings.com's Monarchs board, and was a frequent poster on another popular hockey board at
www.ahlboards.com. She was a very knowledgeable hockey fan and would pass on any new information
she had about players or games. If she knew of any way she could help a child, she would jump in with both
feet. She was the total package. She will be missed by all.
The following are many posts on www.ahlboards.com after fellow posters got word of Jen's passing:
From go_monarchs: I will truly miss one of the best people I have ever met in my lifetime. If you needed
something, and she had the ability to help you, she would. Before the Manchester Monarchs Booster Club
was even formed, she was gathering information for me in order to get the idea off the ground. She is a
special person and will be missed by all. God be with you, Jen!!!
From hockeynutz: Truly one of a kind. She'll be greatly missed by her family and her friends.
From storm & monarch29: Our sympathies to her family and friends. Makes you realize how precious life
really is. Sad to see someone taken from this world so young.
From xcheck24: I regret that I didn't know Jen as well as many of her fellow Monarchs fans did, but I could
see in the little time that i spent with her that she was an awesome person that cared about everyone around
her. I'll miss her and I send my best to her family and friends. May God be with Jen and with all of you.
From Rumblick: She will be missed.
From wildcat: Very sad news. My sympathies to all friends and family.
From Hockey Chic: A sad day, indeed. She was a great person and her presence will be missed.
From Knucklepuck: Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.
From GoDoogie: I am still absolutely speechless - this is NOT supposed to happen. Jen was a true loving and
giving person and people like that are hard to find. She will be missed by all she touched.
From BINGO: My wife, son and myself offer our condolences. Jen's personality will be forever missed on the
"boards". May Jen rest in peace.
From ratsgirl: My sympathies to her family and friends.
From mac: I’m sorry to hear such sad news. I have never met monarchs23, but feel a deep lose in my heart. My condolences to her family, friends and the
Monarchs Booster Club. May God be with you.
From dano: With Jen’s passing, the world has lost a truly remarkable woman, hockey has lost one of the best fans it will ever know and I have lost a very dear
friend. My deepest sympathies go out to Jen’s parents Katie and Paul, her brother Michael, as well as the rest of her family and friends. My prayers and thoughts
are with you all and with Jen.
From RoyalsFanatic: That is tragic. I didn't know her but I know she was a mainstay on these boards and a lot of you have lost a friend. I am sorry for your loss.
From moNARChOLEPTIC: It was in mid-April when, after many months of communicating with Jenny on LetsGoKings.com, I had the opportunity to spend the week
in New England, and see a whole lot of Monarchs hockey. Being a jaded New Yorker, living in the pomp of Los Angeles, I had the occasion to forget about the kind,
genuine, sincere folk that live outside these bustling communities. I became acquainted with them quickly. So many people in Manchester extended their hands
of friendship to me that week, but probably none more selfless than Jennifer Kemp. My interaction with her was so loving, so kind and so personal that when I
made plans to go back east in the coming weeks, I was thrilled to hear that I would see Jenny at Monarchs games in Connecticut on the 10th and 11th. In fact,
Jenny emailed me last week saying she had my tickets set up, and offered me the name and phone number of the hotel she and the other Monarchs fans would be
staying at. Once again, the smile that she brought to my face is realized when I think of her organizational skills and selfless attitude. I know that virtually all
Monarchs games are made better by the experience the Booster Club has put into it, and I offer my sincerest condolences to the Monarchs fans, the Booster Club,
and of course, Jenny's family. While I am so saddened to hear of our loss, I am blessed to have met and known Jenny for however short a period of time, and
each time I wear my Monarchs KOEHLER jersey, I'll feel as if I am carrying on in her honor. My prayers are with you all.

On December 2, 2007, the MMBC took time to rememberJennifer Kemp. It was a chilly start to the day with
temperatures near 20 degrees, but still 15-20 friends & family braved the cold to “Celebrate Jen”.
Sometimes, you have no control of things that happen. When we arrived at the cemetery in Henniker, NH, we
found out the town locked the gates at both entrances. The gates were still open the day before, but because
a pending snowstorm was coming in during the evening, they locked the gates. Next to one of the gates was
a small opening between the gate and the stone wall. We made our way through the opening and walked to
the burial site.
Lydia Perry read a poem aloud to the Kemps. People took a few moments to visit with Jen and then we made
their way back to the cars to head over to the Kemps house for the rest of the celebration. In previous years,
everything we did in celebration of Jen was done at the cemetery, but this year we were not able to bring the
vehicles into the cemetery.
Once we arrived at the Kemp house, we gathered again outside in a small grassy field next to the garage.
John & Lydia Perry, as well as Lynda Field, already filled balloons up with helium for the balloon launch. Everyone was given a balloon
and for those who wanted to write a message on the balloon in Jen’s memory, there were several sharpies available.
Lydia gave to go ahead to launch the balloons. The balloons gave the sky some beautiful color. Once those balloons reached the point
where they start to disappear, Lydia gathered Jen’s relatives (Paul, Katie, Michael, Shannon, Meagan and Zoe) in a circle. Each family
member grabbed the strings of a batch of multi-colored balloons and released them together.
Carol Gagnon read a letter she wrote to the Kemps. It was straight from the heart. It touched all who were there. Such thought, care
and love was in the ink the letter was written with. Thank you for sharing, Carol.
Next, each of the Kemps was given a gift bag and they were asked to open them together.
Inside was a hockey puck, but it was not one that you would use in an ice hockey game.
This puck was a special edition puck. The puck had Jen’s picture in the center of it with
her name – Jennifer Kemp – above her picture, and the dates that she graced the world
with her presence below.
Jennifer Kemp Memorial Pucks are available through the MMBC at a cost of $20 each. All
proceeds from the pucks will go toward the MMBC’s Jennifer Kemp Hockey Scholarship
Fund. This fund provides a means for less fortunate children to attend a hockey camp to
sharpen their skills.
Once all the events were completed, we went inside the house to warm up and eat. It
was a potluck style meal and we have many good cooks out there. There was plenty of
food and beverage to consume. At 1:00 PM, we started to file out of the house, as most of
us headed to Lowell to see the Monarchs play the Devils at a 4:00 PM game.
John & Lydia, thank you for taking the reigns and planning this memorable event, and for
supplying the coffee, donuts and balloons.
Thanks to Lydia & Carol for sharing your thoughts through your readings. To the Kemp
family, thank you for letting us be a part of your lives. You are special people to all of us.
God bless you, Jen. You will always be in our hearts.
